1- where are you from?
we all live in Albuquerque, NM now but originally 3 of us started the band in our home town of Los Lunas.
2- what do you do in the band?
i’m Anthony Joseph (AJ) and i do the vocals and write most of the lyrics.
3- what are your upcoming projects?
well, right now we’re supposed to go record our follow up to our Ristra 10” entitled Piñata EP which will hopefully be out sometime in april.
we’re also going in to record a song for our upcoming 7” split with our homies in Innards. Really excited for that to see the light of day
there are also some tentative things in the works that i really want to happen like a 7” (fingers crossed). still need to talk to labels and all that jazz.
4- tell us something that we don’t know but should know about your band?
adoobie holmes is a code word for us. if you got the “goods” say it then lead to nearest alley(?).
5- what bands do you like these days? what have you listened to today?
oh my, the question i’ve dreaded. there are so many good bands out there right now and it’s truly hard to figure out who to mention. i don’t know, i personally still can’t get over Alkaline Trio (say what you will about everything new. it’s fair game) as well as Converge, and my fav, Ampere. David, our guitarist, is always listening to a variety of music but i’ve noticed he keeps Breather Resist and Washed Out near his turn-table. Chris, the bass player, well i never know with him but we were singing ATDI together the other night. and our drummer Myles always has old school hip hop groovin’ in the background.
and i just finished listening to Dominic’s S/T 7” soooo good.
ps. i read the question as “…do you still like these days?” sorry i went overboard.
6- do you have friends in bands or who run labels/zines that we should
know about?
of course. i try to be as involved with the bands and labels who mold the scene we have forming now. with that i’ve made lots of friends and have been able to finally spend times and actually hang out with ones i’ve had for a long time.
bands i’ve meet that have blown me away this last year have been Innards, The Reptilian, For Want Of, Beau Navire, Ten Thousand Leagues, and Lord Snow. amazing bands and even better people.
also, David plays bass now in this band Zagadka. very good and catchy.
as for labels… well, nothing we do would be possible without all the amazing support of the friends we’ve made that run DIY labels. Bear, Radical Friends, Melotov, texastoastDIY, Kyeo Speaks (it’s a zine kinda thaaan’), Affinity Index, Black W/ Sap, Olhar de Vidro, Dögs Knight Productions and who knows who else i’m forgetting.
7- why are you in a band and what do you want to accomplish in said band?
well, i don’t really know how to get my feelings out. i do a lot of art but i’m not the kind of person that understands how to put some kind of feeling or expression into a painting or print. and i’m not a skilled musician so i wanted to do this band to vent. punk is the only way i know how to vent. screaming everytime i play a show and letting out all the little things that bother me feels so great. knowing that someone is listening to my lyrics and my stupid memories makes me feel relieved. getting it out and letting it go. i feel that the DIY punk community understands… i guess.
and i want to tour different countries, i want to put out splits with friends, write records that make me feel better and do something for someone else. just accomplish the proverbial band dream i suppose. oh, and get HUGE.
8- how did you decide upon your band’s name?
haha. well, originally we were thinking about calling the band Echinacea but we realized that sounded too much like Saetia. so i told the guys i also wanted to start a band in the vain of Sinaloa called Adobe Homes. the guys liked that name way better and i never started that other band so Adobe Hom(i)es was born.
9- when was the last time you slept on a floor?
last sunday, the last day of tour. it was tight! although, i really want to get one of those air mats i’ve been seeing bands with. sleeping straight on hardwood floors is soooo passé.
10- do you have anything more to say?
i always have plenty to say (if you haven’t noticed how long winded i can be). but it’s always hard to think of things to say without being asked certain questions. um, i definitely want to thank you, Julian, for wanting an interview. never done one before. it was chill.
